How does workers’ compensation work in Oklahoma?
Workers’ compensation is a system designed to provide benefits to employees who suffer from work-related injuries or illnesses. In Oklahoma, employers are required to have insurance to cover employee injuries or illnesses that occur during the course of employment. If an employee suffers a personal injury while working, they can file a claim to receive benefits such as medical expenses, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs.
Workers’ Compensation Process
The process starts by notifying your employer of the injury, then filing a claim with the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Commission. The Commission will evaluate the claim and determine the amount of benefits that the injured worker is entitled to receive. It’s important to note that benefits are typically the only remedy that an injured worker has against their employer. In some cases, however, an injured worker may be able to pursue a personal injury claim against a third-party, such as a manufacturer of defective equipment or a negligent driver who causes a work-related accident.
