  • Tulsa, OK – Two Killed, One Hurt in Truck Accident on I-44 at 165th Ave

Tulsa, OK (August 15, 2024) – According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, troopers identified the two people who died after a crash involving a semi in east Tulsa last week.

Officials reported a semi and a UPS truck collided around 3:30 a.m. at eastbound I-44 near 165th East Avenue on Wednesday. OHP officials said a UPS truck was stalled in the road when a semi struck it. The two people who died were inside the semi, and the UPS driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

OHP identified the driver of the semi as 24-year-old Prince (first name unknown) of Brantford, Ontario, and the passenger as 22-year-old Rohit (first name unknown) of Brantford, Ontario. They both died at the scene of the crash due to their injuries. However, an investigation remains ongoing in the interim, and witnesses were still asked to come forward.

We want to offer our sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.

Truck Accidents in Oklahoma

Every year, commercial truck accidents happen over 500,000 times in the United States. In 2021, there were 523,796 incidents reported involving large trucks in the US. This is a 20% increase from the previous year. This figure includes 5,700 large trucks that were involved in fatal crashes in 2021, which is an 18% increase from 2020.

When large truck crashes occur, they often end in severe injuries or fatalities. The average semi truck is about 20 to 30 times larger and heavier than the average passenger vehicle, posing a serious threat when they become involved in traffic accidents together.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of truck accidents in the US are caused by the actions of negligent truck drivers. Because semi-truck drivers are often working long, grueling hours to meet deadlines set by their employers, they often engage in negligent behavior like driving while fatigued, distracted, or even intoxicated.
