According to preliminary reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), the incident occurred around 4:16 p.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 77. Martinez was driving in the outside lane when he encountered a commercial vehicle stopped in traffic due to a prior crash. OHP investigators reported that Martinez failed to slow down in time, striking the back of the stationary commercial truck. The severe impact caused both vehicles to erupt in flames. Martinez succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the driver of the commercial truck escaped without injury. Authorities noted that both drivers were wearing seat belts and neither had passengers.
