Elgin School Bus and Semi-Truck Crash on I-44 Near Lawton
A frightening crash involving an Elgin Public Schools bus and a semi-truck occurred on Interstate 44 near Exit 46 toward Medicine Park, sending emergency crews rushing to the scene in Comanche County. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, multiple injuries are believed to have resulted from the collision. The full extent of those injuries has not yet been released.
The accident happened while Elgin PS Bus 25 was transporting students home during its afternoon route. Superintendent Nathaniel Meraz stated that the bus was struck from behind by a semi-trailer truck while traveling on I-44. He praised the bus driver for doing a “tremendous job” maintaining control after the impact, helping protect the students onboard. Emergency responders, including air flight medical crews captured arriving by KWSO, quickly tended to those injured.
Kevin Stitt also addressed the crash, asking Oklahomans to pray for everyone involved and expressing gratitude for first responders. He confirmed that the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was deployed to assist and that he is closely monitoring the situation.
